PSA AND PARTNERS OPEN CONTAINER TERMINAL IN FUZHOU
PSA Corp., the Singapore-based global terminal operator, and several joint venture partners, have opened a 500,000-TEU capacity container terminal in Fuzhou, Fujian province, in southeast China.
The partners in the terminal joint venture company, called Fuzhou-Jiangyin International Container Terminal Co., Ltd., are Fuzhou Port Group, Lin’s Group of Indonesia, Fuqing Port Development and Construction Co., and PSA.
The new terminal features an area of 350,000 square meters, a 375-meter berth, two post-Panamax quay container cranes of 50-ton lifting capacity
each, five yard cranes and two front-loaders.
The terminal has a 14-meter draft and a navigation channel of 15.5 meters. PSA said that the new facility is “one of the few deepwater ports in China.”
“It is well equipped to service fifth generation or bigger container vessels,” PSA said. There are no tidal constraints for vessels entering or leaving the terminal.
To support the terminal’s development, customs clearance procedures are currently being streamlined, while investments are actively being sought for the 400,000 square-meter logistics park located behind the terminal, the Singaporean port group said.
Fuzhou port, located close to Taiwan, is one of two ports designated by the Ministry of Communications of China for trial direct shipping with Taiwan.
