“K” Line, Maersk in joint terminal lease in Kobe
“K” Line and Maersk K.K., an affiliate of the A.P. Moller-Maersk group, have agreed to bring their respective terminals in the port of Kobe, Japan, under a joint lease, effective April 1.
The two companies hope to optimize space utilization by matching the terminal size more closely with the volumes handled. Despite the joint lease, both parties will remain independent, and all yard operations, allotment of office space and utilization of terminal systems will be performed by the respective companies, “K” Line said.
“Never before has a pair of major terminal lessees put such a joint lease into practice in Japan,” “K” Line said.
The terminal under the joint lease occupies about 265,000 square meters. It has six gantry cranes, a berth length of 800 meters and a maximum draft of 14 meters.
