Portman praises Senate passage of U.S.-Bahrain free trade pact
U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman said the Senate’s passage this week of the U.S.-Bahrain Free Trade Agreement, along with the House’s approval of the legislation last week, “signals our commitment to deepening America’s relationship with the Middle East region.”
Portman called the free trade agreement a “major step” forward in implementing President Bush’s proposed Middle East Free Trade Area.
The free trade agreement with Bahrain builds on existing agreements with Israel, Jordan, and Morocco, as well as the recently concluded free trade agreement with Oman, he said.
