BRAZIL DISPUTES FLORIDA TAX ON PROCESSED ORANGE, GRAPEFRUIT IMPORTS
The U.S. Trade Representative has provided notice that the Brazilian government has requested a World Trade Organization dispute settlement panel to consider the fairness of a Florida-state “equalizing excise tax” on imported processed orange and grapefruit products.
The Brazilian government alleges Florida’s tax is out of line with the U.S. government’s obligations to the 1994 General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
