Short line to lease CSX track
Central Railroad of Indianapolis, a subsidiary of short line and regional rail holding company RailAmerica Inc., intends to lease 276 miles of railroad from CSX Transportation pending final negotiations, the railroad said in a notice to the U.S. Surface Transportation Board.
The line, known as the Fort Wayne Corridor, runs between Crestline, Ohio and Tolleston, Ind. The railroad anticipates moving about 42,000 carloads on the corridor annually.
RailAmerica’s Indiana & Ohio Railway directly connects and interchanges traffic with the Fort Wayne Corridor. Traffic on the line also interchanges with CSX, Norfolk Southern and Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad Co. and through the later to all western rail carriers.
Major customers on the line are Central Soya, Steel Dynamics, Procter & Gamble, Cargill and National Lime & Stone.
