U.S. TREASURY PLANS RENEWAL OF INDUSTRY ADVISORY GROUP
The U.S. Treasury Department plans to renew the Advisory Committee on Commercial Operations of the U.S. Customs Service for another two years.
Authorized under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, the committee provides advice and recommendations to Treasury regarding the commercial operations of Customs. The committee’s charter must be renewed every two years.
The committee meets quarterly, mostly at the Treasury Department, in “a candid atmosphere.” Issues under review in the committee are Customs’ Entry Revision Project, the Merchandise Processing Fee, Customs’ operations budget, carrier issues, import and export compliance, and relations with Canadian and Mexican Customs.
Industry officials interested in participating in the committee must apply to Treasury by July 3. The current charter of the committee expires Oct. 15.
