MINETA UPDATES MAYORS ABOUT TSA PROGRESS

U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta told an audience of U.S. mayors that the new Transportation Security Administration is forming a workforce of 30,000 people to safeguard aviation security throughout the nation’s airports.

Mineta told the U.S. Conference of Mayors that the TSA’s new recruits, Federal Security Directors, will be installed at 429 U.S. airports to oversee all aspects of airport security, and to oversee the TSA’s workforce.

FSDs will work in conjunction with local and state authorities to prevent and safeguard the aviation industry from terrorism, while serving as leaders for their airport, Mineta said. “We are looking for people when are stress-tested — individuals who can step in right away and take charge.”
