Boeing Co. profits up 122% in third quarter
The Boeing Co. Wednesday reported a 122 percent jump in third quarter net income to $1 billion, from $456 million in the year-prior period.
The net income growth was despite a 4 percent drop in third quarter revenue to $12.6 billion, from $13.2 billion.
Boeing said its commercial airplanes section generated revenue of $4.9 million, up 6 percent on the year earlier quarter. Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) received orders for 199 aircraft in the quarter, bringing net orders for the nine months ended Sept. 30 to 616 planes. After nine months last year BCA had 191 orders.
The aircraft manufacturer said it has received 199 firm orders for its 787 “Dreamliner” plane due to go into production next year.
“The global economy and air traffic trends are strengthening, and interest from airlines in adding capacity is increasing,” Boeing said.
For the year to date, Boeing’s profit is up 25 percent to $2.1 billion from $1.7 billion, with revenue up 4 percent to $40.6 billion.
