MATSON TO RAISE FUEL SURCHARGE 3.25%
Matson Navigation Co. said it is increasing its fuel surcharge from 2.25 percent to 3.25 percent in its Hawaii and Guam services, effective April 2.
The increase is due to steadily escalating costs in bunker fuel, which have more than doubled in the past year and have reached their highest levels since the Gulf War, said Paul E. Stevens, senior vice president, marketing for Matson.
Matson, a subsidiary of Alexander & Baldwin Inc. of Honolulu, implemented a 1.75-percent fuel surcharge on Oct. 11, and raised the surcharge to 2.25 percent on Feb. 20.
