Marseilles-Fos box traffic up 11% in first half
Container traffic at the port of Marseilles-Fos increased 11 percent in the first six months to the year to 456,000 TEUs.
The French Mediterranean port said its Fos container terminals, which handle ships in the East/West trades, increased traffic 12 percent to 294,000 TEUs. Terminals in Marseilles, which handle mainly North/South traffic, saw their first half volume rise 9 percent.
Container tonnage in the first half rose 13 percent to 4.5 million tons. Including containerized cargoes, general cargo tonnage increased 9 percent to 8 million tons.
Dry bulk tonnage was 2 percent down for the period at 7.6 million tons. Liquid bulk tonnage rose 6 percent to 1.5 million tons on the back of chemicals industry demand.
