AAR reports mixed weekly rail traffic

   The Association of American Railroads reported that total U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 262,765 units last week, up 9.4 percent compared with the same week last year.
   Five of the 10 carload commodity groups posted increases, including petroleum and petroleum products, with 14,831 carloads, up 18.6 percent. Compared with the same week last year, coal showed a decrease with 104,994 carloads, down 13.3 percent.
   Combined North American rail volume of U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads totaled 18,432,337 carloads, up 0.3 percent compared with the same point last year, and 15,277,229 intermodal trailers and containers, up 4.3 percent compared with last year.
   Canadian railroads reported 76,505 carloads for the week, down 4.0 percent, and 54,485 intermodal units, up 5.0 percent compared with the same week in 2012. Mexican railroads reported 15,280 carloads for the week, down 0.2 percent compared with the same week last year, and 10,387 intermodal units, down 7.7 percent.
