CSX Intermodal expanding services in Florida

CSX Intermodal said it will expand its services in Florida with a wider array of shipping options.

Starting today, shippers can take advantage of trailer and container service to Orlando.

'The heavily trafficked lane from Atlanta to Orlando will now be available for private trailers owned or leased by companies other than CSXI,' the company said. Shipping schedules from the western gateway of Memphis, Tenn., to Orlando also are available with expanded gate deadlines.

'This additional flexibility complements our existing services to the important Florida market,' Jim Hertwig, president of CSXI, said. 'Customers can leverage additional efficiencies with their equipment, and take further advantage of existing key lanes such as Savannah to Orlando.'

The company said it has 'received virtually all necessary permits to build a modern new terminal at Winter Haven in Central Florida.'

Hertwig said additional business in Orlando will be transitioned to the new Winter Haven terminal once it is constructed. The terminal is expected to be ready in 2010.
