PACER INTERNATIONAL BUYS RFI GROUP
Pacer International, based in Walnut Creek, Calif., a freight transportation and logistics provider, has acquired RFI Group Inc., a non-asset-based freight forwarding and customs brokerage firm in New York.
Don Orris, chairman and chief executive officer of Pacer, said the purchase of RFI would expand Pacer’s freight distribution to include, for the first time, international trade-related services. He did not disclose terms of the sale.
RFI’s senior managers will remain active in running the business, Orris said. RFI, which has 185 employees, reported revenues of $113 million for the fiscal year ending in 1999. Pacer’s revenues for the 12-month period ending Sept. 30 exceeded $1.4 billion on a pro forma basis.
