BMW CONTRACTS WITH FEDEX TO TRANSPORT PARTS
BMW AG has signed a contract with FedEx Corp. to handle daily parts delivery to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport.
The $1.1-million contract calls for FedEx to handle more than 500,000 cubic feet of parts annually for the automaker.
Under the contract, FedEx will deliver 427 cubic feet of overseas parts to the airport, from which the parts will be trucked to BMW Manufacturing Corp., which is adjacent to the airport.
By having FedEx fly the parts from its U.S. hubs directly into Greenville-Spartanburg saves about 12 hours and makes the parts available for the start of the BMW factory's early morning shift.
