Bechtel National gets contract for Iraqi seaport, airport repairs
The U.S. Agency for International Development has awarded a multimillion-dollar contract to Bechtel National for on-going infrastructure repairs in Iraq.
Bechtel National, based in San Francisco, is expected to team up with the Pasedena, Calif.-based Parsons Corp. on the contract. The contract award provides funding up to $1.8 billion over 24 months. Funding is subject, however, to congressional notification and availability, USAID said.
The so-called “Iraq Infrastructure II” contract, which is similar to a contract awarded in April 2003, will fund a range of projects, including the rehabilitation and repair of Iraq’s airport facilities, and continued funding, repair and upgrades to the seaport at Umm Qasr. USAID expects Bechtel National to work through subcontractors on a number of these activities.
