MITSUI O.S.K. TO IMPLEMENT WESTBOUND ATLANTIC SURCHARGE
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines is the latest transatlantic carrier
to have announced a plan to introduce a westbound equipment imbalance surcharge of $250
per container, effective Oct. 1.
The move by the non-conference carrier follows similar announcements by
the Trans-Atlantic Conference Agreement and several independent carriers.
MOL said that the westbound surcharge will apply to all shipments,
including those moving under individual service contracts, but with the exception of
"specifically advised shipper-owned container agreements."
Current rates and revenues will not support the additional equipment imbalance costs borne
by MOL, the Japanese line said.
