GCT Deltaport adds cranes for intermodal project

A dozen rubber tire gantry cranes will be added this year and in early 2017 at Global Container Terminals’ GCT Deltaport terminal in Port Metro Vancouver as part of an intermodal yard reconfiguration project.

Global Container Terminals’ GCT Deltaport terminal in Port Metro Vancouver will add 12 rubber tire gantry cranes to its facility as part of an intermodal yard reconfiguration project.
The “one over five” cranes have a lifting capacity of 40 tons and will be supplied by Konecranes of Finland.
The first six RTGs will be delivered fully erect in in the second quarter of this year, with the rest of the fleet arriving in the first quarter of 2017.
GCT says its intermodal “densification project will ensure GCT Deltaport is best equipped to handle increased volumes from the largest transpacific mega vessels calling the facility.”
Last month GCT Deltaport said it would add two high-efficiency “megamax” ship-to-shore cranes to supplement the existing 10 ship-to-shore cranes at the terminal.
