TACA CARRIERS REINSTATE BUNKER SURCHARGES
The shipping lines of the Trans-Atlantic Conference
Agreement will implement eastbound and westbound bunker surcharges from Oct. 13, for the
first time since the beginning of 1998.
For traffic to and from U.S. Atlantic and Gulf ports, the bunker charge
is $21 per 20-foot container and $42 per 40-foot/45-foot box.
The fuel surcharge for shipments to and from Pacific Coast ports is set at $32 per 20-foot
box and $64 per 40-foot or 45-foot container.
TACA said that fuel prices have increased significantly. The conference
carriers did not previously charge bunker charges.
The bunker charges apply to shipments moving under TACA conference-wide
service contracts and under tariff.
