GREAT WESTERN TO TAKE SPACE ON MAERSK TRANSPACIFIC SHIPS

Great Western Steamship Co. headquartered in Tequesta, Fl., plans to take space on the transpacific vessels of Danish mega-carrier Maersk Sealand.

Great Western and Maersk Sealand have entered into a cooperation agreement, called the Maersk Sealand/Great Western Pacific Slot Charter Agreement.

Under the proposed agreement, notified to the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission, Great Western will charter space aboard Maersk Sealand-operated vessels in the trade between Busan, South Korea, and inland points via Busan, and the Port of Long Beach, Calif., and inland United States points via Long Beach.

The agreement would be valid for the duration of the current transpacific slack season and will expire on June 30, 2001.

Great Western and Russia-based FESCO recently announced a merger of their respective services between Hong Kong and China in Asia and the U.S. West Coast.
