Linda Morgan, a well-known Washington transportation attorney and former U.S. Surface Transportation Board chairman, died at the age of 64 on Nov. 4 after a long battle with breast cancer.
Linda Morgan, a well-known Washington transportation attorney and former U.S. Surface Transportation Board chairman, died peacefully at her home in Bethesda, Md., on Nov. 4 from breast cancer. She was 64.
Morgan joined the law firm Nossaman in 2011 and has sat on the board of the Canadian Pacific Railway since 2006.
From 1994 to 2002, she was STB chairman. During her eight-year term over the Department of Transportation agency, she oversaw many transportation regulatory proceedings, including rail-rate and rail-service matters. It was also during this time the STB grappled with complex rail mergers occurring throughout North America.
Before joining the STB, Morgan served 15 years as counsel with the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, including seven years as general counsel.
She was a longstanding and active member of the Association of Transportation Law Professionals
“We are all incredibly sad to have learned of Linda’s passing,” said E. Hunter Harrison, Canadian Pacific’s chief executive officer, in a statement. “Linda was a tremendous asset to our board and will be greatly missed by all.”
Morgan is survived by her husband, Michael Karam, and daughter, Meredith Karam.
