CHINA SHIPPING GROUP: NO COMMENT ON 5,500-TEU CHARTERS
China Shipping Group said that it could neither confirm
nor deny reports that it will take two 5,500-TEU new containerships on charter from the
Greek charter owner Costamare.
If the deal is confirmed, China Shipping will be able to replace ships
of about 2,400-TEU capacity used in its new transpacific service, starting mid-November,
by vessels more than twice as large.
Costamare also has a firm contract to charter five new 6,200-TEU
containerships to Sea-Land Service when they are delivered next year.
