OTAL: New Douala customs system creating congestion
Europe/West Africa carrier OT Africa Line said that a new automated customs system in the Port of Douala is putting the Cameroon port 'in danger of congestion.'
The Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA)/Systeme Douanier Automatise (SYDONIA) replaced the former PAGODE system at the start of the year and delays are being experienced in the transitional period as often declarations have to be input into both the new and old systems, OTAL said.
The CMA CGM subsidiary reported that Douala's container park is at 96 percent capacity.
