Several ocean carriers issued general rate increases on various trades, while members of the Caribbean Shipowners Association adopted a voluntary guideline for a bunker surcharge reduction.
Ocean carriers Maersk Line, MSC, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd and CSCL issued general rate increases.
Maersk Line will increase rates from Far East Asia (excluding Japan) to the Mediterranean, Adriatic, Black Sea and North Africa effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU for dry and reefer containers, and to Syria, rates will increase by 450 euros per TEU for dry and reefer containers.
The Danish carrier will also increase rates from Far East Asia to Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU, $400 per FEU and $400 per FEU high cube dry container.
MSC will increase rates from Asia to Europe and the Mediterranean effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU.
CMA CGM will increase rates from:
• All Asian ports (including Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh) to all North European ports (including the United Kingdom and the full range from Portugal to Russia) for all cargo effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU.
• The Far East and Japan to the West Mediterranean, East Mediterranean, Adriatic and the Black Sea for all cargo effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU to the West Mediterranean, East Mediterranean, Adriatic, Black Sea and North Africa; and 450 euros per TEU to Syria.
• The Far East and Japan to North Africa for all cargo effective Jan. 14. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU.
• All Asian ports (including Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh), to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Ain Sokhna, Egypt; Aqaba, Jordan; Djibouti; Port Sudan, Sudan; and Aden, Yemen for all cargo effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $300 per TEU.
• All Asian ports to all Middle East Gulf ports for all cargo effective Jan. 22. Rates will increase by $150 per TEU. The French carrier already announced rate increases on this trade for Jan. 1 by $500 per TEU, Jan. 8 by $150 per TEU and Jan. 15 by $150 per TEU.
Hapag-Lloyd will increase rates from:
• North, South and Central China to the Arabian Gulf for all cargo and container types effective Jan. 22. Rates will increase by $150 per TEU.
• East Asia (excluding Japan), Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to all North Europe and Mediterranean destinations for all cargo and container types effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU and $1,000 per FEU.
• The United States to Australia and New Zealand for all container types effective Feb. 1. From the East Coast and Gulf Coast ports, rates will increase by $100 per TEU and $200 per FEU; and from the West Coast ports, rates will increase by $175 per TEU and $350 per FEU. Hapag-Lloyd previously announced these Feb. 1 increases from the United States to Australia and New Zealand last month, but adjusted the amount via the East Coast and Gulf Coast ports from $150 per FEU to be $200 per FEU instead.
CSCL will increase rates from Asia to Europe and the Mediterranean effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $475 per TEU.
In addition, several members of the Caribbean Shipowners Association – Crowley, Seafreight, Hybur, Seaboard Marine and Tropical – adopted a voluntary guideline for a bunker surcharge reduction between the United States and the Cayman Islands. Rates will be reduced by:
• $16 per TEU;
• $32 per FEU;
• $36 for equipment over 40 feet;
• $10 each for equipment described as Vehs NE 700 cft (500 cft avg);
• $0.04 cents for LCLs per 100 pounds;
• $0.02 cents for LCLs per 1 cft;
• $0.80 cents w/m for equipment defined as Vehs exceeding 700 cft per 40 cft or 2,000 pounds, breakbulk NITs and LCL 2,000 pounds or 40 cft.
Several members of the Caribbean Shipowners Association – Crowley, Seafreight, King Ocean, Seaboard Marine and Tropical – adopted a voluntary guideline for a bunker surcharge reduction between the United States and Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts, Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Tortola, Trinidad, Turks and Caicos, Jamaica, Guyana, Suriname and Virgin Gorda. Rates will be reduced by:
• $50 per TEU;
• $100 per FEU;
• $117 for equipment over 40 feet;
• $30 each for equipment described as Vehs NE 700 cft (500 cft avg);
• $0.12 cents for LCLs per 100 pounds;
• $0.06 cents for LCLs per 1 cft;
• $2.40 w/m for equipment defined as Vehs exceeding 700 cft per 40 cft or 2,000 pounds, breakbulk NITs and LCL 2,000 pounds or 40 cft.
