VIASAFE OPENS MANIFEST PROCESSING CENTER AT NORTHERN BORDER
ViaSafe Inc., an international trade technology firm, said it has opened a processing center near London, Ontario, to convert paper-based truck manifests to an electronic format designed to cut wait times and congestion at several U.S./Canadian border crossings.
The electronic manifests will be sent to the shipper's custom broker two hours before the vehicle arrives at the border. Customs officials can then clear the shipment and wave the truck through if everything is in order. The processing center can serve trucks headed for the Ambassador Bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor, as well as the Peace Bridge and other crossings between Ontario and New York.
ViaSafe is collaborating on the project with the Canadian Transit Co., which operates the Canadian side of the Ambassador Bridge.
