SEA-LAND’S DOMESTIC SERVICES ARE RENAMED CSX LINES
CSX Corp. has renamed its domestic container shipping operations,
previously operated under the Sea-Land Service name, "CSX Lines."
CSX Lines, LLC is a separate subsidiary of CSX Corp. that incorporates the
former activities of Sea-Land’s domestic shipping business unit.
The international shipping activities of Sea-Land and several container
terminals are due to be transferred to the A.P. Moller/Maersk Line group, following their
sale in July.
CSX Lines, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., will operate a fleet of 16
vessels and 27,000 containers to provide services connecting the U.S. mainland with
Alaska, Guam, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
"In many ways, the company is returning to its roots as a domestic
carrier," a spokesman for CSX said.
CSX also retains a terminal operating company as a subsidiary of the group.
