UNION PACIFIC PICKS ARCOT FOR DIGITAL SECURITY

Arcot Systems Inc., a Santa Clara, Calif.-based provider of secure digital identities, said Monday that the Union Pacific Railroad, based in Omaha, Neb., has selected Arcot’s WebFort technology for e-commerce authentication.

“We realized that user IDs and passwords did not provide adequate security for our customers to conduct high-value business transactions over the Internet,” said Rick Holmes, senior director for security and quality assurance at Union Pacific.

“We chose the Arcot solution because it offers ‘everywhere access’ to user authentication and digital signing capabilities.”

WebFort restricts access to the railroad’s online business to specifically identified and authorized employees and customers, and allows an electronic trail of all user activity to be preserved for later security audits.
