PORT OF JAMAICA HIRES APM TERMINALS
The Port Authority of Jamaica said Friday it has contracted APM Terminals (Jamaica), part of the A.P. Moller/Maersk Group, to operate the Jamaican container terminal complex at Port Bustamente for an initial period of five years.
The port said that “in the tender process, APM Terminals was selected from a short list of six Jamaican and international operators.”
Peder Sondergaard, vice president of A.P. Moller, APM Terminals, said, “we have set up APM Terminals (Jamaica) Limited as a joint venture with Stevedoring Company, whose owners include A.E. Parnell & Co. Ltd., Jamaica Fruit and Shipping Ltd., and Transocean Shipping.”
The port in Jamaica expects a throughput growth of 4 to 5 percent in 2002.
