FEC named rail carrier of the year by UPS
UPS has named the Florida East Coast Railway its carrier of the year for 2006.
FEC Railway is on a run of more than two years without a service failure for UPS, which is the regional railroad's largest domestic intermodal customer.
“We value excellence in customer service and are honored to receive this prestigious award from an internationally renowned entity like UPS,' said John D. McPherson, FEC Railway president. 'I congratulate all my partners at the railway for their dedication and hard work that led to this distinguished honor. Our continuing failure-free service record demonstrates FECR’s total commitment to provide world-class service.'
David MacInnes, the railroad's assistant vice president intermodal marketing, said UPS takes advantage of scheduled intermodal service with multiple daily departures.
'We have created an intermodal service that is competitive to over-the-road transit time and more reliable than trucking,' he said.
The railroad's intermodal division works with parcel carriers, intermodal marketing companies, full truckload and less-than-truckload highway carriers, ocean carriers and connecting railroads.
FEC Railway is part of FEC Industries, which also controls extensive real estate holdings.
