ALITALIA CARGO JOINS SKYTEAM CARGO ALLIANCE

   SkyTeam Cargo said Wednesday that Alitalia Cargo has officially become a member of the airline cargo alliance, founded by Aeromexico Cargo, Air France Cargo, CSA Czech Airlines Cargo, Delta Air Logistics and Korean Air Cargo.

   The alliance signed a memorandum of understanding on July 9 to enter exclusive talks with Alitalia. The airline's official membership was announced following SkyTeam Cargo's executive board meeting in Prague.

   Through the partnership Alitalia Cargo will provide SkyTeam Cargo with 21 new destinations in six additional countries.

   Alitalia Cargo operates a fleet of 166 aircraft, including two Boeing 747-200 freighters and a Boeing 747-400 freighter. From its hub airport operations in Milan Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino, the company serves more than 100 destinations, 40 of which have palletized cargo-handling capacity. The company employs 750 people in more than 120 offices.
