Ports of Indiana wraps up 2004 with 7.6 million tons
The Ports of Indiana moved 7.6 million tons of cargo across the docks of its three ports in 2004, a 35 percent increase over the tonnage handled in 2003.
The port authority said 2004 marked the highest annual tonnage volume for its port facilities at Mount Vernon, Burns Harbor and Jeffersonville since 1998, and it surpassed every year since 1998 by more than a million tons.
In specific, the Ports of Indiana realized significant increases over the past year in steel (up 88 percent), coal (up 52 percent), miscellaneous-project cargo (up 33 percent), and grain (up 32 percent).
