Port of Portland releases annual environmental report
A report released Wednesday by the Port of Portland says reduced vehicle idling, a food-waste composting program and water conservation have allowed the port authority, which also governs Portland International Airport, to meet internal environmental goals.
Vehicle idling is down 79 percent, according to the report, primarily due to a quick pay system for parking at the airport. Targets for the next year include reducing diesel emissions by encouraging the use of ultra-low sulfur diesel and stressing fuel use conservation.
