Maersk introduces Vancouver congestion charge
Denmark’s Maersk Line today is introducing a congestion surcharge on all import cargo to Canada’s inland destinations via the West Coast gateway, due to the severe disruption at Canada’s Port of Vancouver.
The surcharges applicable on the intermodal moves (not including local Vancouver deliveries) are:
* $225 per 20-foot container.
* $300 per 40-foot container.
* $338 per 40-foot high-cube container.
* $380 per 45-foot container.
Maersk said that berthing delays have forced ships to wait for days at the outer anchorage, and that a shortage of rail cars is restricting movement of cargo. The carrier added that the recent rail strike and extreme weather conditions have also contributed to the situation.
