Deutsche Post posts 2004 profit
German postal and logistics conglomerate Deutsche Post said its operating profit rose 12.5 percent to 3.35 billion euros ($4.44 billion) in 2004 and net income rose 21.3 percent to about 1.59 billion euros ($2.1 billion), compared to 2003.
Deutsche Post, whose freight and express arm is DHL, said it posted a 7.9 percent increase in revenue to about 43.2 billion euros.
DHL Americas unit posted an operating loss of 300 million euros, less than the 500 million loss the company projected earlier in the year. DHL has invested heavily in the United States market during the past year following the acquisition of Airborne Express in an effort to expand its network and catch up with FedEx and UPS.
