AST&L TO BECOME ENTITY WITHIN NIT LEAGUE

The National Industrial Transportation League and the American Society of Transportation and Logistics (AST&L), both industry interest groups in Washington, D.C., have approved an agreement in which AST&L will become a separate entity within the NIT League, with the AST&L name continuing.

Both organizations share similar objectives, purposes, and membership. The NIT League, founded in 1907 to lobby for its members before regulatory bodies, includes shippers, carriers, transportation intermediaries and logistics providers.

AST&L, founded in 1946 to promote standards of training in transportation and logistics, comprises shippers, carriers and educators. AST&L’s principal activities include the Transportation Journal and the LL Waters Scholarship program, as well as professional certification and education programs. The organization will retain its name.

“The league’s board of directors was enthusiastic about this effort,” said Ed Emmett, president of the NIT League. “AST&L is a well-respected organization that the freight transportation industry cannot afford to lose.”

Dr. Ed Rastatter, the NIT League’s director of policy development and research, will be responsible for AST&L’s administration.
