MAERSK SEALAND, SAFMARINE DROP SHIP ON MED/BRAZIL LINK
Maersk Sealand and Safmarine have reduced from two to one the number of ships in their Mediterranean/East Coast South America “Med Brazil” container service.
This lengthened the sailing frequency from fortnightly to monthly.
The “Med Brazil” service, started in April 2001 initially just to cater for market seasonality, will now operates one 1,157-TEU vessel and call at Algeciras, Paranagua, Itajai, Santos and Algeciras. The fleet change will see a reduction of about 30,000 TEUs in annual one-way capacity in the market.
