ANTWERP SEES RISE IN TONNAGE, SLOWING GROWTH IN CONTAINERS
The Port of Antwerp said first-half volume improved 3.3 percent to 65.60 million tons, as the port set a monthly record in May of 11.95 million tons.
The port's growth in container volumes slow to 4 percent in the first half, after averaging growth of 10 percent per year over the past decade. Container tonnage improved to 22.85 million tons, while container throughput increased about 3 percent to 2.06 million TEUs.
Overall, general cargo improved only 0.8 percent to 34.55 million tons, as conventional cargo fell 7.2 percent due to a sharp drop in inbound volumes. Roll-on/roll-off volume improved 3.3 percent to 3.03 million tons.
Liquid bulk volumes rose 7.1 percent to 17.13 million tons, while dry bulk rose 5.4 percent to 13.91 million tons.
