EVERGREEN, LLOYD TRIESTINO SWITCH MED SERVICES TO TARANTO
Evergreen Line and its subsidiary company have switched their two main Mediterranean services from Gioia Tauro, southern Italy, to the neighboring port of Taranto.
The carriers have transferred to Taranto the China-Europe-Mediterranean and Far East Mediterranean weekly services connecting Asia and Europe, where the Evergreen has opened a new container transshipment terminal.
However, Evergreen’s Mediterranean-U.S. East Coast service, operated under a slot-charter agreement with Senator Lines, remains in Gioia Tauro.
The departure of Evergreen and Lloyd Triestino, who had substantial traffic volumes at the Gioia Tauro container terminal, represents a blow for the big Mediterranean hub operation owned by the Contship Italia group.
