MSC deploys first 8,000-TEU ship in Pacific trade
Mediterranean Shipping Co. is joining the growing number of carriers deploying vessels of about 8,000-TEU capacities in the transpacific trade.
The world’s second-largest container shipping line will introduce the 8,000-TEU “MSC Texas” into the joint MSC/CMA CGM “Pearl River” transpacific service in Xiamen on Sept. 25.
The vessel was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries and is the first of two ships of this capacity built by Hyundai for MSC.
The “MSC Texas” is also the second 8,000-TEU boxship deployed in the “Pearl River” service, after partner CMA CGM introduced the 8,000-TEU “CMA CGM Hugo” in August. The joint service will eventually use five ships of 8,000 TEUs.
