CKYHS ALLIANCE DROPS PORTS, REDUCES CAPACITY ON TWO PACIFIC SERVICES

Shipping lines of the CKYHS global alliance are reducing the annual one-way capacity of two of their joint services by some 170,000 TEUs.

The changes affect the “CES/CALCO-P” service of COSCO, “K” Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin Shipping, and the “CAX” service of “K” Line and Hanjin, on which Sinotrans Container Lines also takes space.

On the “CES/CALCO-P,” calls at Xiamen and Yokohama have been dropped, turning the service into a Shanghai/Ningbo shuttle service to and from southern California. At the same time, capacity is being reduced from an average of 3,560 TEUs a week to 1,702 TEUs. The vessel changes for this service will see a reduction of about 100,000 TEUs in annual one-way capacity in the transpacific trade.

The revised port rotation for the “CES/CALCO-P” service is Shanghai, Ningbo, Long Beach, Oakland, Shanghai and Ningbo.

The “CAX” service will now omit westbound calls at Portland and Tokyo. Five vessels averaging 2,755 TEUs will replace five averaging 4,135 TEUs, resulting in a loss of about 70,000 TEUs in annual one-way capacity.

The revised port rotation for the “CAX” service is Ningbo, Shanghai, Kwangyang, Busan, Long Beach, Oakland, Busan, Ningbo, Shanghai and Kwangyang.

The updated schedule, transit time and vessel details of the services are posted on the global liner shipping database ComPairData at www.compairdata.com.
