British Airways World Cargo will invest '850,000 ($1.74 million) expanding its Perishables Handling Center (PHC) at London Heathrow that will include a second Border Inspection Post (BIP) for the carrier at the airport.
The expanded facility will add an extra 2,325 square feet for inspection and handling of non-human consumption products of animal origin.
Work on the PHC extension will start this month and is expected to be completed by the end of February. The new BIP will open soon after and like the carrier’s existing BIP, it will be operated on behalf of BA World Cargo by Christian Salvesen 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
“The additional BIP will help speed up the inspection process, clearing consignments as quickly and safely as possible, while complying with all regulations to ensure the protection of animal health in the U.K.,” said Andrew Southey, BA World Cargo’s product manager.
