FREIGHTQUOTE.COM JOINS CAPSTAN

   Freightquote.com, a Kansas City-based developer of online transportation exchange and marketplace services, has signed an alliance agreement with Capstan Systems, a California-based start-up company developing an online logistics network.

   Under the agreement, freightquote will become an anchor partner on Capstan’s system. Capstan users will gain access to freightquote’s services for ground and ground-to-air modes.

   Launched in May 1999, Freightquote says it has enrolled more than 13,000 commercial customers. Investors include Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Private Equity and Menlo Ventures.

   Capstan is creating online networks that help participants in international supply chains exchange information and execute logistics and transportation. The company has partnered with i2 Technologies to bring its system to online business-to-business marketplaces. It has also signed alliance agreements with Circle International and Fritz Cos. in the past month.
