USTR awards $1.2 million WTO “capacity building” grant
The U.S. Trade Representative has awarded a new $1.2 million grant to the World Trade Organization for “capacity building” purposes in developing countries.
USTR made the announcement at the heels of the WTO ministerial meeting in Cancun, Mexico, Sept. 10-14. Capacity building is the process of improving trade conditions in developing countries.
The grant follows another $1 million contribution made by the agency earlier this year.
USTR said the total U.S. spending on capacity building assistance in fiscal year 2003, ending Sept. 30, will amount to about $752 million.
