PILOT AIR FREIGHT SEES SHIPPING INCREASE IN 3RD QUARTER

Pilot Air Freight said it saw a million-pound increase in gross shipping weight in third quarter, despite the grounding of flights for the period following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Pilot’s revenue for the quarter surpassed $52 million, which includes $7.8 million from international shipping, the company said.

“Although all flights were grounded following the tragedies that struck our nation on Sept. 11, our extensive ground transport network enabled us to continue to meet our customers’ needs,” said Richard G. Phillips, chairman, president chief executive officer of Pilot Air Freight.

Pilot handled 152,109 shipments, weighing 90.5 million pounds. Through the first nine months of 2001, the company has delivered 443,665 shipments amounting to 264.3 million pounds and $155.9 million in revenue.

Pilot Air Freight is a full-service transportation and logistics company with 65 offices in North America, and a worldwide network of overseas agents.
