LONG BEACH SEEKS PROPOSALS FOR CRUDE OIL TERMINAL
The port of Long Beach has asked potential tenants to express their interest in a proposed deepwater liquid bulk terminal at Terminal Island’s berths T123 and T124 at Pier Echo.
The port is seeking a prospective tenant who would build the loading and unloading equipment and other shoreside facilities, including pipelines leading to off-site storage. No significant storage facilities are planned for the five-acre on-shore property.
All expressions of interest must be submitted to the port by the close of business on July 17.
The port said that it is planning to lease a five-acre facility that would be developed south of the existing Fremont Forest lumber terminal and the BP (Arco) oil terminal. The new terminal would be used primarily for receiving crude oil or petroleum products. The proposed terminal would include a berth with water depth of as much as 76 feet.
The facility would be designed to handle vessels larger than the oil tankers currently calling at the port. The new terminal could handle the “very large crude carriers,” a class of oil tankers that range in size from about 200,000 to 320,000 deadweight tons.
