GATX BUYS 35% STAKE IN BRAZILIAN LOGISTICS COMPANY
GATX Corp., based in Chicago, has bought a 35-percent stake in Bonifacio Logistics, a provider of truck and rail logistics solutions in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Bonifacio-GATX, as the company will be known, is also active in railcar maintenance.
The chemical industry is the largest industrial sector in Brazil, with $36.2 billion in shipments last year. Several of GATX’s U.S. customers have made substantial investments in Brazil. “Less than 2 percent of all products move by rail,” said Paulo Bonifacio, founder and owner of Bonifacio Logistics, “so there are opportunities to offer services in this expanding marketplace.”
