MARAD APPROVES SALE, SCRAPPING OF WESTERN OVERSEAS TANKERS

   The U.S. Maritime Administration has approved the sale and scrapping of three Western Overseas tankers.

   The 16,329-gross-ton tanker, 'Guadalupe' (formerly 'Henry M. Dawes'), which was built in 1945, will be sold to British Virgin Islands-based Snow Drop Co. Ltd. for resale to Vijay Ship Breaking Corp., based in India.

   The 20,572-gross-ton-tanker, 'Trinity' (formerly 'Riverhead Spirit'), which was built in 1966, will be sold to Snow Drop for resale to Virendra & Co.

   In addition, the 39,830-gross-ton-tanker 'Sabine Philadelphia' (formerly 'S/R Philadelphia'), which was built in 1970, will be sold to Snow Drop for resale to Hariyana Ship Demolition Pvt. Ltd.

   MarAd is required to approve these types of sales under the 1916 Shipping Act.
