U.S. DEVELOPS PROGRAM FOR SATELLITE EXPORT LICENSING
The U.S. State Department’s Office of Defense Trade Controls has created a regulatory program for licensing exports of commercial satellites and their parts to U.S. allies.
The program was developed in conjunction with the Defense Department’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency/Technology Policy and members of the aerospace industry.
The program includes licenses for multiple shipments (known in the industry as bulk licenses); exports to approved NATO and non-NATO allies; and minimal data at time of export with the rest to be filed to the State Department within 15 days.
The Office of Defense Trade Controls will provide to U.S. exporters free of charge the computer software and instructions needed to participate.
