DHL launches route optimization program
DHL Tuesday unveiled a technology-based “route optimization” program intended to improve efficiencies and streamline operations.
DHL said it began the implementation of a customized software solution at 340 DHL facilities in the United States in January, and the technology will be fully operational by September. The program will help map out optimum delivery routes, streamline the sorting process, and more efficiently balance daily loads. Officials said that when the program is complete, DHL will have improve in-house operating efficiencies and offer better overall service.
The route optimization program is expected to balance workload capacity across the entire delivery fleet, and decrease drive time, route length, and fuel consumption, the company said. It will also allow faster processing of shipments at each facility.
