Vanguard expands inland trucking network

Vanguard expands inland trucking network

Vanguard Logistics Services (VLS) New York said it is enhancing its interior point intermodal (IPI) program to the West Coast, with the addition of a New York-to-San Francisco transit.

As a result, VLS now moves direct from New York to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle-Portland.

“We have been offering our clients a daily service from New York to LAX for some time, last year we added Seattle and Portland as direct points, which saves at least five to seven days on the traditional ‘via LAX’ transit time, and now we have SFO on a direct basis,” said Robert Sutton, vice president commercial development, and in charge of developing this product segment.

With the newly added direct service to San Francisco, customers now can expect shorter transit times and less handling over the LAX hub station.

Vanguard offers daily departures from New York City to Los Angeles with an eight-day transit time, weekly departures to San Francisco with a nine-day transit time, and weekly departures to Seattle and Portland with 10-day transit times.

In addition, Vanguard offers its clients an 'expedited option' to all the western points noted, but also to Reno, Las Vegas, San Diego and Denver. For a small premium, the expedited service provides a daily departure and a five-day transit time to any of the IPI points.

“Some of our customers in Europe use the expedited services exclusively to be able to offer premium dedicated services,” Sutton said.

Vanguard’s container freight station operation is in Carteret, N.J.
