Yang Ming christens 1,500-TEU ship

   Yang Ming christened the 1,500-TEU vessel “YM Horizon” at a ceremony June 3 at the Keelung shipyard of China Shipbuilding Corp. (CSBC).

   The “YM Horizon” is the third of four 1,500-TEU ships ordered by Yang Ming from CSBC in 2003. It will be delivered to Yang Ming tomorrow and will be deployed in the Intra-Asia trade.

   In a separate development Yang Ming Group subsidiary All Oceans Transportation Corp., signed June 1 a contract with Liberian Clio Marine Inc. to build a 80,500-deadweight-ton Panamax bulk carrier, at a cost of about NT$ 1.1 billion ($35.1 million). The vessel is scheduled to join Yang Ming’s fleet in 2008.
